Wedding Photographer in Michigan

Images of Interactions

This portfolio is all about capturing candid moments at weddings throughout Michigan on 35mm and medium format film. These are small moments that happen on a wedding day between people that get overlooked; moments that my eye is trained to see as a photographer. It’s the moments that make your wedding gallery shine.

I am proud to be from the Mitten state!

As a wedding photographer in Michigan, I’ve seen it all:

snowy weddings in May, 80 degree weddings in November, beautiful weddings on Lake Michigan, and windowless weddings in a Detroit warehouse.

This state has so much to offer and I love when people want to get married here.

Let’s Chat!

A Practice Session, Not a Photoshoot

Taking photos can feel foreign, so I offer engagement sessions (which I call practice sessions) so we can build trust, shake off the pressure, and let you just be yourselves.

Think of it as a no-pressure hangout where you get to be yourselves and I get to learn how you move, connect, and show up together. It helps me photograph you in a way that respects your body and your unique experience of gender.

Honest Feedback & Image Reflection

After our session, we’ll review the photos together and talk about what it felt like to be seen and photographed.

As a Michigan LGBTQ wedding photographer, this reflection helps me understand how you want to be represented — it’s part feedback, part image therapy, and totally centered on making sure you feel safe and seen on your wedding day.

Pronoun Awareness & Gender Affirmation

I always check in on pronouns before we meet and I never assume anyone’s, whether it’s guests, vendors, or family.

I’ll follow your lead if you use different pronouns in different spaces. And if misgendering or microaggressions happen, I am ready to step in and gently advocate for you on your special day.

LGBTQ+ Vendor Recommendations

Need a queer DJ, florist, planner, or officiant?

I have a running list of amazing LGBTQ+ and allied vendors who know how to show up with respect and joy for queer celebrations. Just ask and I will send you my favorites.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

for Your Wedding Photographer in Michigan

  • An average wedding photography day is around 8-10 hours. Typically, you’ll get anywhere from 600-800 images for that period of time. These are a mix of film and digital images, sequenced in order of your day.

  • While I don’t intervene during candid moments, I do provide guidance during the portrait moments when we’re taking family photos or pictures of the two of you. I’ll help make sure everyone is in good light and smiling at the camera with their eyes open! When I’m taking portraits of you and your partner, I avoid posing you and instead prompt you into motion together (e.g. walk around the park together and soak in your wedding day).

  • I love knowing what shots are most important to you, so I require you to give me a list of 3-5 “don’t miss” moments. I’ll prioritize these moments over anything else that might be happening that day. I will also work hard to learn your values for the day and capture photos that are in line with these values. For example, if you care more about capturing your guests than your table linens, I’ll spend more time photographing your cocktail hour than your table settings.

Every wedding package includes a complimentary engagement session, which I call a practice session. It gives us space to hang out, shake off nerves, and for me to learn how to photograph you in a way that respects your body and gender identity.

  • I’ve photographed in it all, and I’ve learned that we can make anything work as long as you keep an open mind! I come into the day ready to roll with whatever comes our way. I also come prepared with all sorts of lighting equipment in case we end up somewhere that doesn’t have good natural or artificial light. I’ll be ready to take pictures anywhere; you just worry about enjoying your day.

  • The answer is probably yes. I’ve been doing this for 10 years and have photographed in about every imaginable type of venue. However, I’ll say that photographing in a new type of place that I haven’t photographed before is THE BEST. It inspires new creativity and helps me take in the day with awe and wonder. So don’t be scared off if I haven’t photographed at your venue; it’s a good thing!
